From its early beginnings, the NAN name has been shaped by Nestle’s commitment to understanding nutrition and applying scientific knowledge in ways that support everyday family life. NAN name’s origins can be traced back to Nestlé’s early efforts in nutrition science during the late 19th century. This foundation was built on a desire to improve nutritional understanding at a time when food safety and accessibility were key concerns for families. This early emphasis on science and careful formulation then laid the groundwork for Nestle’s long standing approach to nutrition development.

As decades passed, nutrition knowledge continued to evolve. Nestle’s product timeline reflects a progression from early milk based nutrition research to the development of growing up milk options designed for older children, including products developed under the NAN name.  Rather than remaining static, the NAN name adapted alongside advancements in food science, quality control, and production standards. This ability to evolve has allowed NAN name to remain relevant to families across multiple generations, while Nestle maintains consistency in its core principles.

Over the decades, NAN name has built a history shaped by Nestle’s continuous advancement in nutrition science. Beginning with early efforts to refine protein quality, Nestlé introduced a series of research-driven improvements.  The first innovation was the demineralised whey in 1961, helping to bring protein and mineral composition closer to recognised nutritional benchmarks. This spirit of research-led development continued with the introduction of partially hydrolysed whey protein in 1987, followed by the incorporation of probiotics, live good bacteria culture in 1991.  As research progressed in the twentieth century, Nestlé developed an optimised protein, known as OPTIPRO®, reflecting evolving scientific understanding of nutritional balance. Subsequent milestones included the launch of 2’-FL with OPTIPRO® and probiotics in 2017. Most recently, Nestlé introduced NAN Growing Up Formula Milk, featuring a 5 MO Complex™.

Over time, continued research led to the development of optimised protein approaches and additional nutritional components, as well as the expansion of growing up milk options designed for different stages of childhood from age one year onwards. These milestones reflect Nestlé’s ongoing commitment to research led development, without remaining fixed to any single formulation.

Looking back at NAN name’s history is not just about tracing a timeline—it is about understanding how nutrition science, quality standards, and family expectations have shaped Nestle’s journey with the NAN name.  By adapting to new insights while remaining anchored in research led development, Nestlé continues to support families in a way that respects both heritage and progress.

Through generational change, evolving lifestyles, and advances in nutrition science, Nestlé focuses with the NAN name remains consistent: to provide responsibly developed nutrition options for older children that fit thoughtfully into everyday family life, while upholding standards of safety, quality, and transparency.
